Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) will be launching certification standards for organic textiles, “National Organic Textile Standards (NOTS) which have recently been included under the National Programme for Organic Productions (NPOP) on July 27, 2012 in the national capital. Mr Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce, Industry & Textiles, Government of India, has consented to be the Chief Guest of this event on the occasion.

In FY 11-12 exports of certified organic products touches Rs.1866 crores in value with an increase of 167 percent, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) said Friday. "Last year (FY 2011-12) India supplied certified organic products to various countries in Europe, Asia and US of value Rs.1866 crores with an increase of 167 percent in terms of export value and 111.63 percent in terms of volume which included food, cotton and textiles products.

Despite the slowdown in world economies, the government expects exports to increase 20 per cent in the current fiscal, a senior commerce ministry official said here today. "We are is still the second fastest growing economy. I see turnaround in exports and indications are that we can achieve 20 per cent export target this year," Commerce Secretary S R Rao told reporters after meeting the exporters body Fieo here.

The government today said there is no need to ban exports of rice and wheat because of poor rains as the country has sufficient stock. On the back of bumper production, the country is currently exporting various agricultural commodities including rice, wheat, sugar, cotton and maize. "I don't think there is any reason to be concerned. As of now, there is no problem about availability of foodgrains and I do not think, we need to put our export commitment on hold," Agriculture Secretary Ashish Bahuguna told reporters.
