India and China will kickstart discussions next week covering a broad spectrum of sectors aimed at pitchforking bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2015 under a “joint economic group” (JEG) — a move seen as an attempt to mend a relationship fraught with disputes between two of the world’s greatest emerging economic powers.

The State Government has made a proposal to the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to increase the number of items under the Indo-Myanmar border trade and also to allow the State to import up to 50,000 metric tonnes of rice from Myanmar annually. An official source informed that the State Government put up this proposal during a meeting held at New Delhi yesterday under the aegis of the Commerce Ministry.

The Republic of Zambia plans to attract Indian investments in energy, agro processing, manufacturing, construction and tourism. Investments are also invited in developing its national parks. “There are a lot of investment opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, agro processing industries and construction of bridges and roads,” Susan Sikaneta, High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia, told reporters here on Thursday.

The government on Thursday cleared national mission on food processing (NMFP) to be implemented by centre and state governments to boost food processing industry during next five years. Cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) chaired by prime minister Manmohan Singh cleared the proposal on NMFP on Thursday. The mission will be implemented in five years beginning this financial year that would also help in increasing farm productivity and farm incomes.
