Shri Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce, Industry & Textiles today met Mr Yukio Edano, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan on the sidelines of 44th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) meeting and related meetings at Siem Reap, Cambodia. The issues of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project and the preliminary study for the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor were discussed.

China has promised to allow import of more products from India during the just concluded Joint Economic Group's meeting attended by Commerce Ministers of the two countries, to enable New Delhi to reduce the trade imbalance, media reported in Beijing. "China has promised to allow the import of more products from India, to close an existing $ 23.4 billion trade gap between the two countries, despite a series of trade disputes in recent months," state run China Daily reported.

A 11-member high level delegation from Nigeria visited the Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) to find collaborative areas and explore possibilities in post harvest sector. The delegation was headed by Executive Secretary Agriculture Research Council of Nigeria, Professor Abubakar Baba Yusuf and National Coordinator of West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme, Professor Damian O Chikwendu.

In order to improve food value chain performance, the agriculture ministry today asked private firms to help build strong linkages between farm production and markets. ``Entry of business houses in agriculture linkages is not clearly having visible impact on farmers because backward linkages are not complete. There is a lot of room to grow,`` agriculture secretary Ashish Bahuguna said at the CII summit on cold chain development.
