Expressing concerns over widening trade deficit with Sweden, India today asked the European country to provide greater market access to its products. The issue was raised by Commerce and industry Minister Anand Sharma in the presence of Swedish Minister for Enterprise Annie Loof during the meeting of Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation.

Bharat Lal Meena, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Government of Karnataka, said, “Food safety is more relevant now than at any other point of time as the government of India allowed FDI in retail.

A meeting to discuss business opportunities between India and Australia was held at PHD Chamber with Mike Moignard, Minister Commercial India, Australian government, on Tuesday. Local industrialists met the delegation, including Dr Grayson Perry, Australian Trade Commissioner, and Ankur Bhatia, Business Development Manager, Australian Trade Commission.

With no relief in sight from high interest rates after RBI maintained its status-quo on Tuesday, the disappointed Indian exporters have urged the central bank now to at least extend the realisation period to 18 months from six months now besides ensuring that banks lend 12 per cent of their resources as credit to exporters. Government had extended realisation period for exports from six months to 12 months with effect from June 2008 to September 30, 2012.
