Iran to resume wheat imports due to drought

Iran's next wheat harvest will be 30 percent less than forecast due to drought, forcing it to resume imports, the head of the national farmers' association was quoted as saying on Saturday. The news comes as world food prices reach record highs, with storms, floods and droughts hitting food belts around the world.

Basmati rice export orders dip by 10% during Apr-Jan

Basmati rice export contracts have dipped by 10% to 24.41 lakh tonne in the first ten months of the current fiscal from a year-ago, on account of sluggish demand especially during April-July of 2010. According to the government’s agri-trade promotion body Apeda, traders have registered contracts for basmati rice exports for 24.41 lakh tonnes during April-January of the 2010-11 fiscal, against 27 lakh tonnes in the year-ago period.

Egypt buys 170,000 T US, Australian, Argentine wheat

Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, has bought 170,000 tonnes of soft wheat from the United States, Australia and Argentina for March 21-31 shipment on a free-on-board basis, the main government wheat buyer said on Saturday.
