Gujarat keen to replace calcium carbide with ethylene gas for mango ripening

With the upcoming mango season, the Gujarat Food & Drug Control Administration (FDCA) is determined to curb the use of calcium carbide for fruits ripening, particularly mangoes, in the state, as the chemical is believed to have harmful effect on human health.

Japan to increase food imports

Food safety fears for locally produced foods like milk, meat, fruit and vegetables will give rise to increased imports, a Rabobank report states. The magnitude 9.0 quake is being described at the costliest since records begun in 1965, with estimated losses of $US235 billion.

Bangladesh poultry production in rapid decline
12April 2011
In Bangladesh poultry production has fallen by nearly 18% in the last nine months, according to the Poultry Industries Protection National Council. The poultry sector in the country blames the significant decline on the increase in poultry feed prices, the governments failure to provide incentives to the sector, low market price of poultry products and bird flu.
