The Department of Food Processing Industries, Government of Sikkim recently organised a one-day orientation training programme on food processing for beneficiaries of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME). The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Positron Computer Education Institute at its campus in Tadong, Gangtok.

India's wheat production is estimated at a record 120.21 million tonnes in the 2025-26 crop year, up 2 per cent from 117.94 million tonnes in the previous year, government data showed on Tuesday. Wheat, a major rabi (summer) crop, is beginning to be harvested and is expected to pick up pace in key growing states in the coming weeks.

The government is studying all the tariff-related developments in the US for their implications and remains engaged with America, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said that on February 7, an additional tariff of 25 per cent was imposed by the US on certain Indian exports over India's purchase of Russian oil.

Mauritius market opens for Maharashtra onions.
Maharashtra is set to expand its onion export footprint, with more than one lakh tonnes of onions from Nashik and Ahmednagar districts expected to be shipped to Mauritius, State Marketing Minister Jaykumar Rawal informed the Legislative Council on Tuesday. Replying to a question by MLC Sachin Ahir on the hunger strike by onion farmers in Chandwad, Rawal said the move is part of efforts to identify new export destinations as traditional markets face rising competition.

India to give tariff concession for DDGS imports from US, but with a cap.
The Indian government has considered tariff concession for imports of animal feed DDGS (dried distillers grains with solubles) from the US under a quota in its deal with Washington but the volume will be restricted, according to Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. In a written reply to question on whether the government has given permission to import of animal feed DDGS and other grains from the US in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, he said that in the backdrop of growing demand for animal feed in the country, DDGS has been considered for tariff concession within a quota.

The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFRA) has formally published the registration of 'Nagauri Paan Methi' (Paan Methi) as a Community Farmers’ Variety. The registration appears in the Plant Variety Journal, February 2026 issue, conferring statutory ownership and legal rights upon the farming community of Nagaur district, Rajasthan.
