The Odisha government has doubled the rice milling charge in order to smoothen the paddy procurement from farmers and support the millers, an official said. The proposal in this regard was approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday. The milling charge for parboiled (Ushuna) rice has been enhanced from Rs 20 to Rs 40 per quintal, while the charge for raw (Arua) rice is raised from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per quintal, a release issued by the CMO said.

India is expected to take up compliance and certification requirements aimed to ease exports of marine goods, agricultural items and processed foods with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), during the second round of talks for the proposed free trade pact end of this month in Moscow, said an official. The government's record pulses buffer of 43 lakh tonnes will serve as a strategic cushion against any supply disruption or price flare-up triggered by a likely El Nino weather phenomenon, a top government official said on Thursday. 'We don't have to dispose it of now. If there is an El Nino effect and it impacts kharif sowing, this buffer stock of pulses will be used,' Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare told PTI on the sidelines of a FICCI event.
