Exports rise 1.8% in December on UAE, China gains despite steep US tariffs. Driven by a sharp jump in exports to China and the UAE, India’s goods exports in December managed to post a 1.8 per cent growth despite steep 50 per cent tariffs and continued uncertainty around the India-US trade deal, data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry showed. While goods exports in December grew 1.8 per cent to $38.51 billion compared to $37.80 billion, imports jumped 8.7 per cent to $63.55 billion compared to $58.43 billion in December 2024. The trade deficit widened by 21 per cent to $25 billion compared to $20.63 billion. Data showed that exports to the US declined 1.8 per cent to $6.8 billion compared to $7 billion, but shipments to China grew 67.35 per cent and to the UAE by 14 per cent. APEDA opens Chhattisgarh office to boost agri & processed food exports. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has inaugurated its new regional office in Chhattisgarh at the 2nd India International Rice Summit, marking a strategic step towards strengthening agricultural and processed food exports from the state. The newly launched office is aimed at providing end-to-end support to farmers, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, producer groups, startups and exporters, enabling them to access global markets more efficiently. The cumulative exports (merchandise & services) during April-December 2025 is estimated at US$ 634.26 Billion, as compared to US$ 607.93 Billion in April-December 2024, an estimated growth of 4.33%. India’s total exports (Merchandise and Services combined) for December 2025* is estimated at US$ 74.01 Billion, registering a negative growth of (-)1.01 percent vis-à-vis December 2024. DGFT, in Collaboration with MEA and FIEO, Organises National Conference on Strategic Trade Controls 2026. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), and other Government partners and industry stakeholders, organised the National Conference on Strategic Trade Controls (NCSTC) 2026 in New Delhi today. The Conference provided a platform for discussions on India’s Strategic Trade Control (STC) framework, including policies and procedures governing the export of dual-use and sensitive goods, technologies, software, materials and equipment regulated under the SCOMET framework. It also enabled the exchange of international experiences and practices related to strategic trade controls. NCSTC 2026 focused on enhancing awareness, compliance and coordination among Government, industry, academia, research institutions and international stakeholders, while facilitating legitimate high-technology trade and addressing proliferation risks. APEDA resumes rice export registration to the Philippines, Senegal after import curbs lifted. After the Philippines and Senegal lifted curbs on rice imports, India’s agri export promotion body APEDA has resumed registering export contracts for non-Basmati rice to both countries with immediate effect. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said in a notice on Wednesday that it has resumed the issuance of Registration-Cum-Allocation Certificates (RCAC) for the export of non-Basmati rice to Senegal. India simplifies export documentation for West Asia, North Africa markets. To ease documentation requirements for exporters trading with West Asia and North Africa (WANA), the government has authorised the India & Arab Countries Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (IACCIA) to issue non-preferential certificates of origin, according to a government order. The decision is aimed at improving ease of doing business, particularly for small and medium exporters who often face bottlenecks in securing certificates during peak export cycles.
