India triples banana output with tissue culture. Over the past two decades, India has experienced a threefold increase in banana production, driven by state agricultural strategies and widespread adoption of tissue culture technology by farmers. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level review meeting on June 24, 2024, at the ICAR Pusa Campus in New Delhi to assess the progress of the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. The campaign, conducted from May 29 to June 12, is part of the government's vision to transform Indian agriculture under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Lab to Land’ initiative. Philippines plans onion imports to meet year-end gap. The Philippines Department of Agriculture (DA) is evaluating onion importation to stabilize prices amid projections of insufficient supply lasting until December. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. confirmed intentions to import both red and yellow onions to supplement local supplies to fulfill the national demand. Centre approves procurement of 2.5 lakh tonnes of mangoes from Karnataka The central government has approved the procurement of mangoes from Karnataka. This is under the Market Intervention Scheme for 2025-26. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy requested this due to surplus production and falling prices.
