Ties frosty but Bangladesh to buy 50,000 tonnes of rice from India. The Bangladesh interim government has approved import of 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice from India to meet the domestic demand, a decision which demonstrates that the trade relationship between the two neighbours remains uninterrupted despite the recent chill in diplomatic ties. The proposal on rice import was approved by the committee on govt purchase on Tuesday and a private Indian company will supply it to Bangladesh as the lowest bidder, according to sources. Security concerns to trade via Chabahar: India and Taliban hold first top-level talks. In the first high-level bilateral engagement with the Taliban regime, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Afghanistan acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Dubai Wednesday. So far, an Indian official, at the level of Joint Secretary, had been meeting Taliban ministers, including Muttaqi, and Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob. Portugal-India Business Hub seeks to forge new trade and collaboration paths in Goa. Discussions are underway with the Portuguese govt to establish trade routes using Portugal as a gateway to European markets for Indian companies and Goa as a gateway to Indian markets for European manufacturers, said the president of the Portugal-India Business Hub, Altino Alvares. Alvares said that Portuguese companies are willing to establish certification agencies in Goa to ensure Goan products meet European standards, facilitating smoother entry into European markets. India, Asean trade agreement review faces delays. The planned makeover of India's 14-year-old goods trade pact with Asean may take longer than expected as members of New Delhi's fourth largest trading partner press to negotiate tariffs individually, two people aware of the development said.
