Govt may allow wheat export via pvt route; rice through FCI

The government is likely allow exports of two million tonnes of wheat through private trade, and one million tonnes of non-basmati rice from its own godowns which is expected to ease storage problem. This will end more than four years of ban on exports of foodgrain. The government in early 2007 had banned wheat exports amd later in April 2008 export.....

Himachal seeks central help to promote apple

Himachal Pradesh Thursday asked a visiting parliamentary committee to help the state in improving infrastructure for smooth transportation and marketing of apples – the main fruit crop of the state. ‘Forty percent of apples being produced in the country are from the hill state but due to lack of infrastructure facilities, the apple growers are not.....

Punjab government launches new scheme for cultivation and marketing of vegetables

The Punjab government on Wednesday introduced a special 'vegetable initiative in urban cluster' scheme in order to encourage the farmers towards diversification. Nigeria: Hard time for importers as Maersk Line announces new freight

Nigerians and other West African importers may face hard times as they have to pay more for freighting their cargo from India. The largest liner, Maersk Line has said that freight costs on shipments from India to West Africa will go up substantially effective July 1, 2011. The company also explained that it would impose a congestion surcharge of $1,100.....
