Wheat exports ruled out for now

The government has decided against wheat exports for now despite mounting pressure to allow farmers to benefit from higher prices overseas. The decision by the empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on food, which met on Monday, could firm up global wheat prices further, but force wheat farmers to bring their produce to mandis.

India, Israel planning to create $50 mn agriculture fund

India and Israel are in talks to create a fund worth $50 million for mutual cooperation in the agriculture sector. Both the governments are planning to create a fund dedicated to agricultural co-operation with each side contributing $25 million each, Israel Agriculture Minister Orit Noked said here today.

FDA Steps Up Border Enforcement Against Foods Containing Illegal or Undeclared Colors

The United States Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) is cracking down on food imports with illegal or undeclared color additives and is adding new firms to Import Alert 45-02, “Detention Without Physical Examination and Guidance of Foods Containing Illegal and/or Undeclared Colors” (“IA 45-02”).

Brazil - More poultry for the Middle East

Brazil's poultry sales to Egypt were 119 per cent higher in the first quarter than the same period of 2010, despite the political crisis in the country, while overall export volume was up almost eight per cent. Brazilian poultry exports to Egypt grew 119 per cent in volume in the first quarter of the year when compared to the same period of 2010, despite the political crisis that erupted in the country early this year, reports ANBA.
