EGoM likely to decide on wheat export proposal, Food Safety Bill on May 2

The empowered group of ministers (EGoM) is likely to meet on Monday in order to decide on the proposal of agriculture ministry to export wheat and rice as also the long-pending food safety bill. According to reports, the Centre had banned export of wheat and rice from 2007 and it was expected that India’s wheat production would rise 4.3 per cent more as against 84.3 MT for FY2010-11.

Food processing, horticulture team visiting US to study cold chain tech

A 12-member Indian trade delegation is touring the United States currently to learn more about modern cold chain technologies and that country's practices and standards. The tour, which has been organised in response to US President Barack Obama's call for increased cooperation in agriculture during his trip to India in November, will be on till May 6, 2011.

Morocco exploring strategic partnerships with India

Indian firms can invest in Moroccan firms to gain direct and preferential access to several markets with which the African country has signed free trade agreements (FTAs). This was discussed at the Indo-Morocco Joint Commission Meeting, co-chaired by Mr Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Moroccan Minister of Trade Finance, Mr Abdellatif Mazouz.Morocco has FTAs with European, African, Arabic and American markets at bilateral and regional levels.

Russia threatened the USA with total meat import ban
02May 2011
The threat of a total ban on the multi-billion dollar frozen chicken trade to Russia, commencing January 1, has been dropped by the head of Russia’s Trade and Inspection Agency (Rospotrebnadzor, RPN), Gennady Onishchenko. Just as he gave no reason for threatening the ban a few days ago, Onishchenko has given no reason for changing his mind, when he announced it through the state news agency, RIA-Novosti, on Saturday.
