EGoM may decide on grain exports next week

An empowered group of ministers (EGoM) meet next week could likely approve export of a limited quantity of wheat and rice, which together now total 65 million tonne in Central stocks. The Food Corporation of India ( FCI )), the premier grain buyer and distributor for the government, has storage space capacity only 62 million tonne along with space owned.....

EC, FAO, IFAD, WFP join hands for ensuring world food security, nutrition

Four international bodies-European Commission (EC), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Programme (WFP)-have joined hands to deliver timely and sustainable support to food security and nutrition. World Trade Organization ruling threatens U.S. food labeling law

The WTO panel said that the mandatory COOL requirements do not meet the United States' stated objective that the labeling law informs and helps U.S. consumers make purchasing decisions regarding the origin of meat, produce and other products. Thus, if WTO rules against the U.S., it appears COOL could exist on a voluntary basis.....

Canada and Europe reach agreement on organic standards

After four years of negotiations, Canada and the European Union have agreed to accept each other’s organic standards and laws. Canada already signed a similar agreement with the U.S. in June 2009. The global organic trade is now estimated at $55 billion per year, with more than 95% of that total accounted for by the U.S. and European.....
