Govt allows exports of 1m tonnes of non basmati rice

The government today allowed exports of one million tonnes of non-basmati rice, lifting an over three-year old ban, in the wake of overflowing godowns. The decision to this effect was taken by an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. "The EGoM has decided to allow exports of one million tonnes.....

Basmati acreage to expand 15%; traders hopeful of higher prices

Basmati acreage is expected to expand 15% this season in Punjab , Haryana and Uttar Pradesh as sowing gets underway. Exporters , traders and farmers are hopeful of basmati benefiting from the spillover effect of top exporter Thailand's assurance of a 25% higher prices to its farmers and traders. India seeks Poland's help for removal of EU trade curbs
