Onion export ban lifted; $ 475/T fixed as minimum export price

A ministerial panel has lifted the ban on onion exports under pressure from traders and farmers, just 10 days after the Centre imposed it to rein in prices. However, exports will be regulated by a minimum export price, which has been fixed at $475 a tonne. The decision was taken by an empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on food, which met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister  Pranab Mukherjee. India, Mexico to deepen agri-trade ties

Blessed with similar climatic conditions suitable to agrarian activities, India and Mexico on Monday promised to deepen their partnership in sectors like agri-biotechnology, farm equipment, fertilisers and agro-chemicals. U.S. Files Trade Complaint at WTO Over Chinese Duties on Poultry Products

The U.S. filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over what it called unfair trade practices by China that have slashed U.S. poultry exports. The complaint today to the Geneva-based WTO targets Chinese anti-dumping and countervailing duties on American poultry products. A request for consultations is the first step in the case, and the U.S. and China must now hold talks for at least two months in a bid to resolve the dispute. Rice May Slump, Easing Global Food Inflation

Rice, which has beaten corn, wheat and soybeans in the past year, may drop as India restarts non- basmati exports after a ban was lifted, boosting global supplies as buyers including Indonesia take less than expected. The Indian shipments will have a bearish impact and futures may average $16 per 100 pounds in Chicago in the fourth quarter, according to Abah Ofon, an analyst at Standard Chartered Plc.
