Exporting mango to US is sour experience: Rahul Khullar
21March 2011
Exporting mango to the United States is now turning out to be a bitter experience, Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar has said."Over the last 2-3 years, roughly about $2 million worth of mangoes have been exported to the United States," Khullar told a group of Indian journalists yesterday. A sizeable chunk of this – 14% – is spent on radiation checks by US inspectors.

India takes to contract farming in a big way

Asit Tripathy, Chairman of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has pointed out that Indian states need to promote contract farming to ensure that farmers get remunerative prices and assured market for their produce apart from getting freed from the clutches of middlemen.

U.S. set to enact fee on dairy importers
21March 2011
The federal government announced this week that it soon will start charging importers of dairy products a fee to support dairy-promotion programs, a move long sought by farm groups but opposed by U.S. companies that import dairy ingredients for various foods.

AU: Fruit and vegetable imports increasing

More than a third of fruit and almost 20 per cent of vegetables consumed in Australia are imported, according to a new report. Horticultural group Growcom says while overall food exports are still high, at around 60 per cent, the figures are skewed by grain and meat.
