Dhaka seeks long-term deal with Delhi
25April 2011
Dhaka has sought a long-term agreement with New Delhi to ensure food security in Bangladesh. "We've signed agreements with Thailand and Vietnam to procure food grains under g-to-g (government-to-government) basis and we want to have a similar agreement with India, too," said food and disaster minister Mohammad Abdur Razzak on Saturday.

Karnataka horticulture dept-APEDA to review veg exports infra

Karnataka department of horticulture has now teamed up with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) to review its infrastructure for vegetable exports. The state has been receiving considerable orders from the Middle-East and the European Union to widen its basket of exports.

Alphonso sales in the US growing at 25-30% since 2007

Over the past four years, the Alphonso has climbed up the popularity charts among imported varieties of mangoes in the US and European markets. In fact, such is the sales growth of the fruit in the US market that it has been witnessing a steady 25 to 30 per cent per annum rise since 2007.

Apple price hike leads to sharp increase in citrus and banana consumption in Ukraine

According to analysts of Fruit-Inform Project, apple price hike during first months of 2011 led to increase of consumer demand for imported citrus and bananas. “Our estimates show that in January-March 2011 banana, orange, and mandarin consumption grew by 35-45% that approximately corresponds to decrease percentage in apple consumption”,
