The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned a study on the impact evaluation of Geographical Indication (GI) products to Symbiosis School of Economics. This particular study will enable NABARD to analyse the benefits accrued to artisans/producers because of the GI tags over the years, said Monomoy Mukherjee, Chief General Manager of NABARD.

30 Apr, 2024 News Image Philippines: Rice imports up 7.95% to 1.4 million metric tons.
THE Philippines recorded higher rice imports as of mid-April compared to last year's level, data from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) showed.
Latest report from the BPI showed that the country's rice imports from January 1 to April 19 went up by 7.95 percent to 1.42 million metric tons (MT), higher in comparison to last year's 1.31 million MT. The BPI is an agency under the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The Government has allowed export of 99,150 MT of onion to six neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, UAE, Bhutan, Bahrain, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. Onion export prohibition has been imposed to ensure adequate domestic availability against the backdrop of estimated lower Kharif and Rabi crops in 2023-24 as compared to previous year and increased demand in the international market.

Exports of high-quality basmati rice from India grew by 22 per cent to $5.2 billion during April 2023-February 2024, amid robust demand, primarily from West Asia.
According to data compiled by the commerce department, exports of basmati rice increased to 4.68 million metric tonnes (MMT) in April-February, from 4.1 MMT during the same period a year ago, registering a growth of 14 per cent.
