India-Russia Summit: Major Push on Trade, Connectivity, Eurasia FTA
According to senior officials in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the 23rd India–Russia Summit will place “unprecedented emphasis” on strengthening the economic architecture of the partnership at a time when global supply chains, energy markets and geopolitical alignments are in flux. Officials noted that while India–Russia trade has expanded significantly in recent years, driven largely by energy purchases, the structure of trade remains “highly imbalanced” in Russia’s favour. India aims to correct this by expanding exports across a wide basket of goods. “We have identified pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food-processing, marine products and several categories of consumer goods as priority sectors for expanding exports,” a senior MEA official said. Indian exporters of processed food, engineering goods, textiles and speciality chemicals are also being prepared for deeper engagement with Russian and Eurasian markets.

Doubling the Income of Farmers
The Committee on Doubling Farmers’ Income (DFI) recognises agriculture as a value led enterprise and has identified seven major sources of growth, viz., improvement in crop productivity; improvement in livestock productivity; resource use efficiency or savings in the cost of production; increase in the cropping intensity; diversification towards high value crops; improvement in real prices received by farmers; and shift from farm to non-farm occupations. Several initiatives have already been rolled out on the recommendations of DFI Committee. All Schemes/programmes of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare are aligned to achieve these objectives. Agriculture is a State Subject. Government of India supports the States through appropriate policy measures and budgetary allocation for schemes for farmers’ welfare. Schemes/ programmes of Government of India aim to increase production, provide remunerative returns and income support to farmers. India's October-November sugar output rises 43% on higher recovery rates
India's sugar production in the first two months of the 2025/26 season, which began on October 1, rose 43% from a year earlier, driven by better recovery rates and faster crushing across major producing states, leading industry bodies said on Tuesday. The higher output is expected to allow the world's second-largest sugar producer to export surplus supplies without risk of domestic shortages, although it could weigh on global prices. Mills have produced 4.1 million metric tons of sugar by the end of November, up from last year's 2.88 million tons, the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) said in a statement.
