India opens farm market: Duty-free DDGS, sorghum to boost poultry; nut duty cut may spur demand
Duty-free imports of dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) and red sorghum from the US would support India's poultry industry in procuring raw materials at internationally stable prices, helping escalate its competition in the global market for eggs and chicken. Imported DDGS also has comparatively lower levels of aflatoxins than Indian DDGS, according to poultry industry executives. Aflatoxins are a type of toxins produced by certain types of fungi found on agricultural crops like corn.

India’s rice buy for buffer stocks up 4%, near 43 million tonnes
India’s rice purchase for the Central Pool stock, done through the Food Corporation of India, during the October 2025-January 2026 period, was 42.95 million tonnes (mt), up by 3.7 per cent from 41.41 mt a year ago. Experts believe the purchase in the first four months of the procurment season is good to face unforeseen eventuality amid concerns over likely emergence of El Nino during the monsoon season. Drought-bearing El Nino leads to drought or prolonged dry periods in India.

India’s January coffee shipments rise 35% to 33,904 tonnes
India’s coffee exports in January registered a 35 per cent growth in volume. Permits issued during January 2026 by the state-run Coffee Board were up at 33,904 tonnes against 25.090 tonnes a year ago. The shipment value in dollars was up 43 per cent at $170.71 million against $118.96 million in January 2025. The rupee shipment value was up 50 per cent at ₹1,551.62 crore over ₹1,031.47 crore. The per unit value realised was higher at ₹4.57 lakh per tonne compared with ₹4.11 lakh.

India fully protects sensitive agri products like wheat, rice, poultry under US trade pact
India and the US on Saturday announced that they have reached a framework for an interim trade agreement. Under this, the US will reduce tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent from the earlier 50 per cent. "The agreement reflects India's commitment to safeguarding farmers' interests and sustaining rural livelihoods by completely protecting sensitive agricultural and dairy products, including maize, wheat, rice, soya, poultry, milk, cheese, ethanol (fuel), tobacco, certain vegetables and meat," Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a social media post.

The National Pulses Consultation and Strategy Meeting held here brought together on one platform Union Agriculture Minister Shri Chouhan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, agriculture ministers from several states, top scientists, representatives from ICAR-ICARDA, progressive farmers, FPOs, seed and pulse mill representatives – and the message was clear: the roadmap for a self-reliant India in pulses will now be charted from the fields, not from the files in Delhi’s air-conditioned rooms.
