Mango Cultivation
The mango cultivation in the entire country is not affected by the problem of biennial (alternate) bearing. It is found in patches of North India and has less impact in South India. Scientific studies on biennial bearing in mango, including its causes and regional impacts, have been conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes like ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru and ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow.The studies indicate that varieties such as Dashehari, Langra,Chausa, Fazli and Alphonso are predominantly biennial bearing in habit. The main causes of the biennial bearing is attributed to, inherited physiological trait influenced by genetic factors, nitrogen and carbon reserves, hormonal control of flower formation, climatological factors, cultural practices and crop load.

Cultivation of Maize.
The data on farmers engaged in cultivation of Maize is not maintained centrally. However, the state-wise number of operational holdings engaged in cultivation of Maize as per latest agriculture census, 2015-16 is at annexure I. Further, the top maize-producing regions in terms of area under maize cultivation and productivity during the last five years is given at annexure II.

Smart Agri-food systems and sustainable production practices.
Government has identified key agronomic priorities including climate-resilient, carbon-neutral and regenerative agriculture to address the challenges of climate change, resource degradation and sustainable food security. Several schemes have been initiated under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, to promote sustainable agriculture practices. Per Drop More Crop scheme increases water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation technologies i.e. drip and sprinkler irrigation. Rainfed Area Development focuses on Integrated Farming System for enhancing productivity and minimizing risks associated with climatic variability. The Soil Health & Fertility scheme promotes integrated nutrient management through judicious use of chemical fertilizers. Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Agroforestry & National Bamboo Mission also promote climate resilience. Pradhan Mantri Fasa Bima Yojana along with weather index based Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme provides a comprehensive insurance cover against crop failure to farmers suffering crop loss/damage due to natural calamities.

Re-structuring of National Horticulture Mission.
Government of India launched National Horticulture Mission (NHM) in 2004-05 with the aim for the holistic development of horticulture sector in the country. The said scheme was re-structured and subsumed under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme in 2014-15 covering broader spectrum of horticulture sector and the MIDH scheme was re-structured in 2025 with revised Operational Guidelines implementing MIDH scheme throughout the country which included all districts of the country, enhancing cost norms of various interventions, incorporating high value, exotic and medicinal crops and promoting latest and innovative technologies being used in horticulture sector.

India may allow US pulses like ‘masur’ at zero duty.
India may allow limited quantity of lentil (masur) import at zero duty from the US against 10 per cent now, highly placed sources said. However, there is unlikely to be a similar treatment for other pulses such as yellow peas and Kabuli chana.

Amid rising imports of cheap teas, Tea Board orders all consignments to be tested from May 1.
With the Indian tea industry complaining that imports of cheap and inferior quality of the brew have been growing, the Tea Board on Tuesday said all import consignments of tea should be mandatorily tested with effect from May 1 in order to ensure quality.

India-US trade deal to make sure only Indian and American products get the benefits, White House says.
The United States has said its proposed trade framework with India will be structured to ensure that 'the agreed benefits accrue predominately to the United States and India,' underscoring a push for reciprocal market access, tariff reductions and tighter rules of origin between the two strategic partners. In a fact sheet released late Monday, the White House said the arrangement is designed to expand trade while aligning economic and national security priorities.

India-EU trade agreement: Organic exporters showcase products at Germany’s Biofach amid new market opportunities.
With India and the EU announcing the conclusion of a trade agreement, exhibitors from as many as 20 Indian states, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Kerala, are here to showcase their organic food products at the world's leading trade fair Biofach Germany, the commerce ministry said on Tuesday. India-US BTA: Zero-duty access to $46 billion US market to boost farmer incomes.
The proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) is expected to significantly benefit Indian farmers, with India's export advantage and income potential across agriculture and allied sectors. India already enjoys a USD 1.3 billion surplus in agricultural trade with the United States. In 2024, India exported USD 3.4 billion worth of agricultural products to the US, while imports stood at USD 2.1 billion, highlighting India's strong net export position in the farm sector.

EU FTA provides huge opportunities in India for non-alcoholic beverage exports: French firm Richeerz.
France-based sparkling tea maker firm Richeerz on Tuesday said the free trade agreement (FTA) finalised between India and the EU has opened up huge opportunities to boosting bilateral trade between the two sides in the non-alcoholic beverages sector. The company is importing Darjeeling tea from India for its products and is now looking at export to India.
