Government rules out sugar export curbs and maintains duties on edible oils.
India, the world's second-largest sugar producer, has no plans to curb sugar exports, Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said on Tuesday, as a fall in domestic consumption partly offsets lower-than-expected output. The South Asian country has allowed exports of 1.59 million metric tons on the assumption production would exceed local demand. However, output is projected to fall below consumption for a second consecutive year due to weaker cane yields in the biggest producing states.

India’s coffee exports hit a record high of $2.13 billion in 2025-26 fiscal.
India’s coffee exports registered a 17 per cent growth to a record $2.136 billion for the financial year ending March 2026 on higher prices and a modest increase in volume. In the previous year, shipments were to the tune of $1.82 billion.

India has food grain stock three times the existing buffer norms: Centre.
C Shikha, Joint Secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, on Monday said that India has an adequate buffer stock of food grains, well above the prescribed norms. She stated that the country currently has around 222 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat and approximately 380 LMT of rice, taking the total food stock to about 602 LMT.

At the recently-concluded 14th Ministerial Conference of the WTO held in Cameroon, India emphasised that the current impasse in agricultural negotiations in the WTO stems from a trust deficit, which can only be addressed by delivering on commitments agreed in past Ministerial Conferences.
