Chilean cherry exports to India almost double. Chile has nearly doubled its cherry exports to India in the 2024/25 season. India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting held; leaders focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, food security and renewable energy. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal concluded a successful visit to the Sultanate of Oman from 27-28 January 2025. During the visit, Shri Goyal co-chaired the 11th Session of the India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with H.E. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of Sultanate of Oman. The JCM saw productive discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, food security, renewable energy and other key areas. The Minister held a productive bilateral meeting with Minister Qais during which he undertook a detailed review of the bilateral trade and economic relations between India and Oman and identified concrete steps to further strengthen the mutually beneficial business ties. Mr. Donal Brown, Associate Vice President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), called on Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Mr Brown appreciated India’s role as a founding member of IFAD, and longstanding and productive partnership with IFAD. Govt may consider giving agri subsidies via direct benefit transfer: Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The government is trying to bring policy-level changes for simplifying agriculture, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said and indicated that providing subsidies on fertiliser, seed and farming equipment through direct benefit transfer could be considered in the future. In an interaction with farmers, who were invited to witness the Republic Day parade as special guests, at his residence here on Monday, the Agriculture and Rural Development Minister said the government spends up to Rs 2,00,000 crore on fertiliser subsidies.
