Central Government announces structured timeline for compliance with Amendments in labelling Provisions under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
Government of India has introduced a revised timeline for implementing amendments in the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. To facilitate smooth implementation, it has been decided that any amendments to labelling provisions will come into effect on either January 1st or July 1st, subject to a minimum transition period of 180 days from the date of notification. This approach provides ample time for businesses to adapt to the changes.

Chana outlook turns bearish on hopes of higher domestic crop, rising imports.
As new chana (bengal gram) crop begins arriving in the Karnataka and Maharashtra markets, prices have started trending lower, hovering around or below the minimum support price (MSP) level of ₹5,650 per quintal. Chana or desi chickpea is quoting between Rs.5,500 and Rs.6,300 a quintal. The minimum support price for chana for the 2024-25 marketing season has been raised from Rs.5,440 per quintal last year.

Bangladesh imports rice from India, Myanmar.
A vessel, Atn Victory, has arrived at Chittagong port with 22,000 metric tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar purchased under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, food ministry’s senior information and public relations officer Imdad Islam said on Wednesday (January 29). Besides, the ship MV BMC Pandora has arrived at Chittagong Port with 15,000 metric tonnes of parboiled rice from India, imported through an open tender.
