India eyeing China, Mexico for basmati rice exports

India is looking at China, Mexico and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as new markets for its basmati rice, with a view to expand its share of global trade. India exported 2.2 million tonnes of basmati rice to more than 100 countries in the 2010-11 fiscal.The country’s share of the global market for basmati rice is 60 per cent, while Pakistan accounts for the remaining 40 per cent. Philippines - Drop in beef imports

Beef imports into the Philippines during July fell 35% year-on-year, to 5,575 tonnes swt - the lowest monthly total since July 2004. Beef imports from India (down 55%), Brazil (down 83%), Canada (down 61%) and the US (down 6%) all decreased year-on-year, in contrast to the 4% rise in volumes of Australian beef (Philippines' Bureau of Animal Industry).
