Food processing industry seeks govt help to grow abroad

The food processing industry in India is looking at government support, as tax incentives and other measures, to strengthen brand India abroad. The $14 billion food processing industry, growing at 12-13 per cent at present, could grow at higher rates if effective meaures are taken, said the industry body. USDA backing organic agriculture research at AU

A new federal grant to Auburn University funding integrated pest management research on cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and collard greens should help organic farms like Jan Garrett’s Sunbright Organics in Tuskegee. “Green leaf vegetables are very hard to grow,” Garrett said. “They have a lot of pests.” She said her own first plantings of broccoli, cabbage and similar plants were attacked .....

Regulations lead to EU food safety border rejections increase

A rise in rejection of food and feed consignments at EU borders in 2010 has contributed to the number of food safety notifications reaching 8,582 – an 8% increase on 2009 and a record high. Argentina - Beef exports drop 19%

Low supplies, record domestic prices and ongoing government imposed export restrictions have resulted in a 19 per cent year-on-year fall in beef shipments during the first nine months of 2011, reports Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
