Indian tomatoes flooding Pakistan, pushing up domestic prices

Lured by high profits, Indian traders are flooding the Pakistan market with tomatoes, affecting domestic supplies and pushing up prices back home. Truck loads of tomatoes sourced from Delhi and Nashik are entering Pakistan through Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar daily, traders said.  "As many as 80-90 trucks of tomatoes (each carrying about 16 tonnes) are crossing Attari-Wagah border every day," Rajdeep Singh Uppal, .....

Basmati, onion export price may be lowered after request from farmers

The government will consider lowering minimum export price for Basmati rice and onions, following representations from farmers and traders on the need to boost exports. Food Bill: Govt may raise general quota if output improves

The government has decided to redraft the National Food Security Bill to keep an option open for supplying more than three kilograms of subsidised foodgrains to general households in case of increased output. "We have received public comments and views of state governments on the draft Food Bill. We have decided to make some changes while finalising the bill," Food Minister K V Thomas said. Government may provide bonus to paddy growers instead of higher MSP

Paddy growers may soon have a reason to cheer. The Andhra Pradesh government has been pressing the Union government hard for an upward revision in the minimum support price and is hopeful of a bonus, a senior state government official from the agriculture department said.
