Price cut fails to fuel onion exports

Despite slashing the onion minimum export price (MEP) for the third time this month, there are no takers for the vegetable from India, one of the world's largest producers, as even at the lower rate the price remains above the prevailing global prices.

Dutch sold more flowers for less in 2010

The Netherlands, the world's top flower exporter, sold 3.6 billion flower bulbs abroad in 2010 -- a two percent rise on the year before, the Central Statistics Bureau said on Monday. But while sales volumes increased, the value of the flowers sold dropped by six percent to 313 billion euros ($ 444 billion), it said in a statement.

Food demand to rise 48 percent by 2030
23March 2011
Demand for food will rise by about 48 percent by the year 2030, according to Kito De Boer, director at McKinsey and Company.Speaking in the first session of the Jeddah Economic Forum (JEF) Sunday, De Boer addressed the impact of global forces on economics, the rebalance between East and West and ways of enhancing productivity using inexpensive methods.
