Guar gum export increases 75%

Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan farmers are raising a cheer each time a global oil major announces exploration plans. Guar gum, grown in north India and used as an important lubricant in the drilling of oil wells across the world, has seen a 75% jump in export as the largest producer, India, is currently the only supplier to the world market.

Kashmir produces 14 lakh MT apple in 2009-2010

Minister for Horticulture Sham Lal Sharma has said the government has approved establishment of four cold stores under RKVY in the State. “The report from APEDA engaged for conducting a techno economic feasibility study for setting up of a cold storage chain in the state has been received,” he added.

Trade between India-Africa can surpass USD 40 bn: Conference

Trade volume between India and the African region can surpass the current level of USD 40 billion with adequate focus on agriculture and food processing sectors, speakers at a conference said here today. Participants at the "India-Africa Roundtable" conference said there was vast untapped potential such as developing seeds and sale of farm equipments that could give a boost to trade between them.

The United States became the first nation to block imports from ally Japan's radiation zone, saying it will halt milk, vegetable and fruit from areas near the tsunami-smashed nuclear plant because of contamination fears.
