India is expected to witness 5.4 per cent growth in the farm sector in the current fiscal 2010-11 as indicated by substantial expansion in area and production of major crops in both Kharif and Rabi seasons, official sources said today.

ECGC cancels cover on sales to Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen

State-run Export Credit Guarantee Corp. of India Ltd (ECGC) has cancelled insurance cover on sales to Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen, leaving local exporters unprotected against potentially high credit risk at a time of rising tensions in the North African and West Asian nations.

Ban on pulses export extended till March '12
25March 2011
Ban on export of pulses has been extended by one more year till March 2012, even as the country is likely to import 3.40 million tonnes of the vital foodgrain item to match the enhanced demand. "The period of validity of prohibition on exports of pulses is extended up to March 31, 2012," a Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notification said.

Bad weather forced to leave the clusters in stumps in a year when the international markets demanded more fruit.The table grape season is ending and the weather finally took 20% of production that would have gone to the international market in a year when the weather, lack of manpower and cost of inflation have marked the activity.
