Initial India-Australia agricultural trade data shows that FTA has helped farmers.
While reciprocal tariffs announced by the US have upended the global trade, it is to the credit of the Government of India that it has been able to finalise the free trade agreement with the UK in just about four years of negotiations. The negotiations started in May, 2021 when the Prime Ministers of UK and India discussed 'Enhanced Trade Partnership' (ETP).

‘Philippines to remain world’s top rice importer’.
The Philippines is projected to remain the world’s top rice importer for the fourth consecutive year in 2026, with total imports hitting 5.5 million metric tons (MT), the US Department of Agriculture said. The USDA estimated that Philippine rice imports would increase by 100,000 MT from this year’s projected volume of 5.4 million MT, driven by higher demand for the staple.

India must increase cashew output to overcome African nations’ export curbs: NDFC-I chief.
India should look at increasing its cashew production to overcome the curbs on exports imposed by key African producers, Nuts and Dry Fruits Council of India (NDFC-I) president Gunjan Jain has said. 'We are no longer the number one exporter. We are still the number one processor and consumer of cashew nuts. We are trying to increase production.

Efforts on to push bilateral trade with Russia: FIEO.
The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Tuesday said efforts are on to increase bilateral trade with Russia and balancing it by facilitating more exports. Bilateral trade is pegged at $11 billion. FIEO president SC Ralhan said a an agreement inked with Russia last year enables Customs to recognise secure and compliant businesses and offer them trade facilitation benefits.

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal to visit US later this week, WTO retaliation, BTA talks on agenda.
Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal will visit the US later this week to take forward discussions on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA), an official said Tuesday. Goyal is expected to hold meetings with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick during his visit from May 17-20.

India’s Major Ports Achieve Historic Milestones in FY 2024-25, Driving Growth and Global Competitiveness.
India’s Major Ports have consistently demonstrated remarkable progress over the past decade, with FY 2024-25 emerging as a milestone year in terms of cargo handling, operational efficiency, and infrastructure modernisation. In FY 2024-25, Major Ports registered an impressive annual growth rate of 4.3% in cargo handling, increasing from 819 million tonnes in FY 2023-24 to ~855 million tonnes in FY 2024-25. This growth highlights the resilience and capacity of Major Ports in accommodating rising trade volumes. The increase in traffic was driven by higher container throughput (10%), fertilizer cargo handling (13%), POL cargo handling (3%), and handling of miscellaneous commodities (31%) compared to the previous fiscal year.

India-US trade relations under focus as Piyush Goyal heads for talks in Washington.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a team of senior Indian officials to Washington from May 17-20 for discussions on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The negotiations aim to secure early mutual wins through an interim trade arrangement, with the first phase of the agreement expected by fall 2025. Chief negotiators will meet separately from May 19-22.

Higher output in Assam Valley lifts India’s tea production up by 2% at 65.14 m kg in March.
India’s tea production was up 2 per cent during the month of March 2025 mainly on the increase in output in Assam, the largest producing State. As per the Tea Board’s latest statistics, the all India production during March increased to 65.14 million kgs, up from 63.78 m kgs in the same period last year.

Punjab pioneers litchi cultivation, ships first batch to England.
The state of Punjab is emerging as one of the major litchi exporting destinations in India, as it started the fruit's supply to England from districts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur in 2024. Last year in June, Punjab Horticulture Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra flagged off the first consignment of 'litchi' from the state. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Horticulture Department, exported the first consignment. In an update, the minister had said that the production of litchi, cultivated over 3,250 hectares, will touch 13,000 metric tonnes.
