Punjab Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat chaired a high-level meeting with officials to discuss strategies aimed at boosting the export of fruits and vegetables from the state, expanding the area under horticulture, and increasing farmers’ income. The meeting was held at Punjab Kheti Bhawan, Mohali on Tuesday.

In India, Andhra Pradesh is set to export approximately 10,000 metric tons of Baneshan mangoes, primarily to Gulf and South Asian markets. The use of paper covers has been instrumental in achieving this export volume. These covers, provided by horticulture authorities, are offered to mango farmers at a subsidized rate of $0.02 per cover, reducing exposure to infections, pests, and environmental factors such as sun, rain, and wind.

India and South Africa have discussed possibility of settlement of trade in local currency and unified payment linkage system with a view to further strengthen economic ties, the commerce ministry said on Thursday. They also deliberated on the proposed India-SACU (Southern African Customs Union) preferential trade agreement.

Exporters eyeing new opportunities in the US market amid high tariffs of up to 245 per cent on China must proceed with caution, warns a new report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). The sharp rise in US tariffs on Chinese goods--up to 245 per cent--has opened a window for other countries like India, which has a much lesser tariff of 10 per cent at least till July 8, but the path is not without traps.

The three day India International Coffee Festival (IICF) 2025 will be organised in Bengaluru from April 24. The Speciality Coffee Association of India has been appointed as the nodal agency by the Coffee Board to organise the IICF, which will be held at Chamara Vajra on Jayamahal main road, Bengaluru. DM Purnesh, President, Speciality Coffee Association of India, said IICF 2025 has received very good response from the coffee stakeholders. There will be over 100 stalls at the event including coffee companies, roasters, growers, equipment vendors, and also food stalls, he said.

A nine member delegation held the Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment meeting with the South African side in Pretoria, South Africa on 22nd – 23rd April, 2025. The discussions were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere and were fruitful. There was enthusiastic response towards greater cooperation, addressing pending issues, boosting trade and investment, greater people to people contacts.

India's private sector growth rose to an eight-month high in April fueled by robust demand, particularly a surge in foreign orders for manufactured goods, according to a survey, but business confidence showed some signs of softening. While the latest data underscores a vibrant start to the fiscal year for India's economy, the souring outlook will make it challenging to maintain momentum at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs have hurt business sentiment.

Shri Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), Government of India chaired a high level meeting at the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Nagaland on 12th November 2022 to review the Ministry’s major programmes and schemes for the North Eastern Region (NER). Senior officials of all eight North-Eastern states participated in the deliberations.

24 Apr, 2025 News Image Indian govt reiterates it will buy 100% of pigeonpeas produced by farmers at MSP.
The Indian government has reiterated that it will procure 100 per cent of the tur (arhar or pigeonpeas) produced by farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs. 7,550 a quintal. The reiteration comes as the Centre extended the procurement timeline in Andhra Pradesh by a month for the pulse crop. In a statement, the Agriculture Ministry said the procurement at MSP through National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd (NCCF) was in progress in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. A total quantity of 3.92 lakh tonnes of tur has been procured in these States, benefitting over 2.56 lakh farmers.
