India & Brazil: Strengthening Global Food Security - Agriculture Minister Chouhan.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday said that joint efforts of India and Brazil could play an important role in strengthening global food security. During a meeting with 27 members of Brazil's agribusiness community in Sao Paulo, Chouhan praised the widespread use of machinery in Brazilian agriculture, particularly in cotton and soybean harvesting, and expressed hope for cooperation in these areas, according to an official statement.

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is leading the Indian delegation to the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting (AMM), scheduled to be held on 17th April, 2025 in Brasilia, Brazil. The theme of 15th BRICS AMM is 'Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade among BRICS Countries'. Agriculture Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran are expected to attend the Meeting.

Exports hit record $820 bn amid global challenges in FY25.
Defying global headwinds and World Trade Organisation’s bleak projections, India’s exports surged to a record $820.93 billion in FY25, marking a 5.5% increase over the previous year’s $778.13 billion, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday. Merchandise exports edged up marginally to $437.42 billion from $437.07 billion in FY24. Merchandise imports rose 6% to $720 billion during the year. Non-petroleum exports stood out, rising by 6% to reach an all-time high of $374.08 billion, compared to $352.92 billion last year.

UK and India unlock £400m trade and investment to improve economic ties.
The announcement follows the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD), held in London on 9 April, where key political and business leaders from both countries joined to deepen cooperation and drive growth. Led by UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the EFD focused on strengthening the relationship across various sectors, including financial services, education, technology, defence and sustainable development.

Deputy PM Tajani's visit marks 'important milestone' in Italy-India ties; tech, innovation came in focus.
The recent visit of Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani to India marked an 'important milestone' in Italy-India ties, bolstering bilateral cooperation in a range of areas including trade and investment, science and technology, and innovation. The Italian Embassy in New Delhi in a statement shared some of the high points of the visit from April 11-12, including the signing of a raft of agreements and Tajani's meeting with Indian leaders during which he expressed commitment to work towards strengthening and expanding the foundations of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The cumulative exports (merchandise & services) during FY 2024-25 (April-March) is estimated to grow by 5.50% at US$ 820.93 Billion, as compared to US$ 778.13 Billion in FY 2023-24 (April-March).
India’s total exports (Merchandise and Services combined) for March 2025* is estimated at US$ 73.61 Billion, registering a positive growth of 2.65 percent vis-à-vis March 2024. Total imports (Merchandise and Services combined) for March 2025* is estimated at US$ 77.23 Billion, registering a positive growth of 4.90 percent vis-à-vis March 2024.

Bangladesh: Ship carrying rice from India reaches Ctg Port.
A ship carrying a total of 10,000 metric tons of imported rice from India has arrived at Chattogram Port. The MV PHU THANH, transporting the rice under an international open tender, docked at the port, said a press release issued by the PID today. Necessary measures have been taken to ensure the quick unloading of the rice.

Goods exports up 0.7%, trade gap widens.
India's merchandise exports grew 0.7% on-year to $41.97 billion in March, taking overall FY25 goods exports to $437.42 billion, 0.08% higher than FY24, data released Tuesday showed. A steeper rise in imports at 11.3% sharply widened the trade deficit in March to $21.54 billion compared to $14 billion in February.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Japan: Finance Ministry calls for increasing tariff-free rice imports.
The Finance Ministry proposed Tuesday that the government expand the minimum access system under which the country imports about 770,000 tons of rice per year at zero tariffs. The ministry made the proposal at a meeting of a subcommittee of the Fiscal System Council, which advises the finance minister, at a time when domestic rice prices are historically high.
