APEDA Boosts Millet Exports with Trade Fairs, Exhibitions & Global Promotions.
Department of Commerce, through Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) organized trade fairs, exhibitions and Millet Conclave for awareness, usage and export promotion of millets. Under the International Year of Millets 2023, a host of activities were conducted in close association with Indian Embassies/Missions and Government departments, which included millet themed participation in international trade fairs, sampling events, millet galleries, international buyer seller meets etc. Further, Millets are one of the key focus areas for enhanced branding and publicity in key global and domestic fairs, in which APEDA participates.

India’s wheat procurement season begins with 6 lt surplus on early purchase.
The wheat procurement season began on Tuesday with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) registering a lead of nearly 6 lakh tonnes (lt) compared with the last year due to early purchase staring from March 10 in Rajasthan.

Government lists exporters' feedback: US 2nd biggest source of curbs.
Trade restrictions imposed by the US through standards and other compliances are next only to the European Union on a platform that is being put together by the govt based on feedback from domestic industry. The commerce department, which is testing the portal, has received 24 complaints related to recent trade barriers erected by EU, followed by the US (22) and China (20), some of which have already been flagged by Indian officials during their interaction with American counterparts.

India-Thailand Bilateral Trade Ties Set To Strengthen During PM Modi’s Visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand from April 3-4 to participate in the 6th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit. As part of his visit, PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on April 3. The two leaders are expected to review bilateral cooperation and outline future partnerships between India and Thailand.

EU pushes for MFN provision in India trade talks, eyes US-style concessions.
The European Union is pressing for inclusion of a 'forward most-favoured-nation (MFN)' provision in free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, which would require the latter to make concessions similar to those offered to the US in a proposed bilateral trade pact. The issue of MFN status figured during the last round of India-EU trade negotiations in Brussels held a fortnight ago, people familiar with the development said. Such a move would imply that reduced duties would apply uniformly across all imports.

Nirmala Sitharaman to visit London from April 8-10; FTA talks may figure in meetings
Sitharaman is likely to hold a bilateral meeting with the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and other British ministers. Issues pertaining to the trade agreement and bilateral investment treaty (BIT) may also come up for discussions between the two, the official said.

As per the IBEF report dated October 2024, India, one of the top tea-consuming countries globally, consumes about 80 per cent of the tea it produces. India, Chile to focus on upgrading PTA to CEPA during President Boric’s visit next week
Discussions on CEPA are expected to take place during Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font’s State Visit to India from April 1-5. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, MPs, senior officials, business associations, media, and cultural representatives.
