India and New Zealand are working to finalize a comprehensive and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement. Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, said this while addressing the CEOs of India and New Zealand in New Delhi today. The two countries had announced the launch of negotiations for an FTA earlier this week. The event today was attended by the Right Honourable Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Hon'ble Mr. Todd McClay, New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Investment, Agriculture and Forestry, business leaders and senior officers of the two countries.

CM Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said agriculture has become a profitable venture in the state due to continuous innovations and reforms. The state had surpassed Punjab, Haryana and other agricultural leaders in farm development, Yadav told a visiting National Defence College (NDC) delegation. The CM highlighted the massive expansion of irrigation in MP, stating while only 7 lakh hectares of farmland were irrigated in 2002-03, the figure now exceeds 55 lakh hectares. He credited this for improving both productivity and sustainability for farmers.

India and Sweden explored ways to further strengthen their bilateral trade and investment partnership during a meeting between Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria M Stenergard in New Delhi on Monday. Sweden is the 21st largest investor in India, with cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows amounting to USD 2.51 billion from April 2000 to March 2024.

India is looking to increase bilateral trade with the United States from the present $200 billion to $500 billion by 2030, according to a top government official. Reserve Bank on Monday said India's bilateral trade transactions with Maldives may also be settled in INR and/or MVR in addition to the ACU mechanism. Asian Clearing Union (ACU) is a payment arrangement whereby the participants settle payments for intra-regional transactions among the participating central banks on a net multilateral basis.

India has not broached the issue of reciprocal tariffs in its trade talks with the United States, but the two countries are finalising the scope and schedules of the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), officials said. These could be finalised in the next few weeks. New Delhi is proactively engaging with Washington following the positive talks that commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal had in person with his American counterparts during his recent visit, officials said.

The Narendra Modi government last week lifted a ban on exports of broken rice, in place since September 2022. It’s high time that it also scraps the 20 per cent duty on onion exports and stockholding limits on wheat. The reason is that the harvesting of both crops is underway. According to the agriculture ministry, farmers have sown 324.9 lakh hectares (lh) under wheat and 10.3 lh under onion in the current rabi season, as against 318.3 lh and 8.6 lh last year.
