31 Jan, 2025 News Image Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana Releases NABARD State Focus Paper 2025-26 with Credit Potential of Rs 3.14 lakh crore.
NABARD has assessed a credit potential of Rs 3.14 lakh crore reflecting an increase of 37.64% over the previous year under priority sector lending in Haryana State for the year 2025-26. The credit potential under agriculture, MSME and other priority sector including education and renewable energy has a share of 35.60%, 57.12% and 7.28% respectively. NABARD’s State Focus Paper (SFP) was released by Vivek Joshi, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana, during the State Credit Seminar 2025-26 held on 30 January 2025 at Chandigarh in the presence of Nivedita Tiwary, Chief General Manager, NABARD, senior executives of banks, senior officers of state government and academic institutions of the state.

India’s import of pulses in 2024 was double compared with the prior year and an all-time high, as climate changes had hurt local production. However, analysts said the imports were much more than what were required to bridge the demand-supply gap, as the government wanted to flood the market with yellow peas to control retail inflation. The industry has now requested to impose duties to curtail imports in 2025.

India is conducting a legal review of US President Donald Trump's America First Trade Policy to gauge its implications on the country's trade agenda. The commerce and industry ministry is undertaking a paragraph-wise review of the executive order issued by Trump last week on the trade policy that entails the US identifying countries with which it can negotiate agreements bilaterally or on a sector-specific basis.

Unloading commenced after one of the vessels docked at the port's jetty today (29 January). Ali Akbar, CEO of Seven Seas Shipping Lines, discharge shipping agent and logistics services provider for the two vessels, told The Business Standard that Myanmar's MV ATN Victory carrying 22,000 tonnes of atap rice reached the outer anchorage at 11:15pm yesterday. It docked at the cargo berth today.

Prices of rice shipped from top exporter India were steady at an 18-month low while Thai rates were also unchanged from last week, amid muted demand and rising supplies. India's 5% broken parboiled variety was quoted at $429-$435 per metric ton this week, unchanged from last week. Indian 5% broken white rice was quoted at $432 to $440 per ton this week.

'Many types of fruit don't grow in Russia—such as bananas and citrus—or are produced in minimal quantities due to harsh climate conditions and a lack of necessary technologies and materials. This applies to pears, grapes, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and apricots, which make up less than 10-15% of domestic consumption. The most notable exception is apples, where local producers supply 50-70% of the market, as well as plums, with a domestic share of 30-40%,' Koziy explained.

To help farmers secure premium pricing and gain access to global markets for their unique products, the agriculture ministry has urged states to take proactive measures. These include setting up nodal agencies at the state and district levels to identify and register more products, creating specialised marketing platforms, and exploring financial assistance through various central sector schemes.
