The government has said imports of melon seeds are permitted without any restrictions from May 1 to June 30 on an actual user basis to eligible processors of this commodity only, according to a notification.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said that the imports will be permitted only against a valid FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) manufacturer license for melon seeds.

Talks between India and South American trade bloc Mercosur have been put on the back burner with both sides focused on concluding their long-pending free-trade agreements with other regions, a person with direct knowledge of the matter told Mint.
The talks were meant to expand the number of products enjoying low- or no-tariff benefits under a preferential trade agreement from about 450 to 1,500-2,000.

The government has made it mandatory for pulses importers, millers, stockists, traders, and processors to disclose their stocks of all pulses from April 15 to prevent hoarding as it suspects a large quantity of imported legumes are lying in customs warehouses.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare will meet pulses traders, representatives of various government departments such as customs and state government representatives in separate meetings to discuss measures for bringing imported pulses, which are lying in customs warehouses, to the market.

Nepal has proposed a customs agreement with India that will enable exchange of information which could help in preventing and reducing customs related offences across the border.
India is Nepal’s largest trading partner and shares a border of over 1850 km with five Indian states – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

The eighth round of negotiations for the India-European Union free trade agreement (FTA) are slated to start next month, with India making changes to its negotiating team to speed up the process, two people aware of the matter said.
While both sides have indicated a willingness to adjust their positions on certain contentious issues, India intends to take a firm stance on persistent challenges such as non-tariff barriers. These obstacles significantly hinder trade progress in sectors including agricultural commodities, pharmaceutical items, engineering goods, and electrical items, the persons mentioned above said.

After a lean season of 2022-23, the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) has set a target of processing and exporting 5,000 tonnes of mangoes from its facilities this season. Sanjay Kadam, managing director of the board, said they aim to export to developed nations like the US and Europe where realisation is better.
