Lower duty on edible oils, nuts; target growth in spice, rice in US deal: Niti Aayog.
India should offer concessions on agricultural products from US such as edible oils and nuts where domestic supply gaps exist, and explore duty concessions to boost high-performing exports — including shrimp, fish, spices, rice, tea, coffee, and rubber — in the US market during the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations, a Niti Aayog working paper has argued.

Piyush Goyal meets Italian business leaders in Milan, to co-chair meeting with Italy’s Deputy PM.
India and Italy will assess the progress and identify new avenues for collaboration in high-impact areas such as the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), the government said Wednesday. Industry 4.0, agritech, digitalization, energy transition and sustainable mobility, are the other areas where the two sides will focus. The issues will be discussed during commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal’s two-day visit to Italy on June 4-5.

India seeks measures to tackle trade distortions.
India has called for action to address trade distortions caused by non-market economies, non-tariff barriers and restoration of a strong dispute settlement mechanism at the World Trade Organization (WTO), commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. The minister, however, insisted that one should not jump to the conclusion that an existential crisis has been created at the multilateral trade body.

Govt asks select States to increase inter-state trade on e-NAM platform.
The Centre is preparing to roll out e-NAM 2.0, and States may have to make some changes in their Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Acts. This will be a preparatory step by the Centre to ensure that more inter-State transactions happen over the e-NAM platform. Through hand holding of States, traders are being persuaded to buy though e-NAM. However, it needs many structural reforms required by both the Centre and States to show desired results, experts said.

Indian agri sector to reach $1.4 trillion by 2035, says McKinsey report.
Highlighting that India’s $580-650 billion agriculture sector is the world’s fastest-growing —at 5 per cent annually in the past six years—a report by McKinsey said it can reach to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035. 'India’s agriculture sector is host to multiple structural advantages vis-à-vis other agriculture economies that, if leveraged to their full potential, could accelerate growth of the sector to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035 and $ 3.1 trillion by 2047,' it said in a report titled 'value creation in Indian agriculture'.

Amul launches milk in Spain, to expand to other parts of EU soon.
The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul) on Wednesday announced the launch of Amul milk in Madrid and Barcelona cities of Spain. The Gujarat-based cooperative body said it will subsequently expand to other parts of European Union including Portugal, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
