Union Agriculture Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan says India will be turned into food basket of the world
Addressing farmers at the ICAR-IIHR campus in Hessarghatta in Bengaluru city outskirts, as part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, the Minister indicated that the Centre is looking beyond feeding the 145 crore people of India. The Union Government would collaborate with State Governments, agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendra's (KVKs), farmers, and scientists to draw a comprehensive roadmap to achieve this goal.

India eyes bigger slice of global Agri trade as APEDA flags export potential
India’s agricultural export sector holds vast untapped potential, according to Abhishek Dev, Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Speaking at the inauguration of Indus food 2025 in Greater Noida, Dev noted that while India is the world’s seventh-largest Agri exporter, it currently accounts for just 2.4 per cent of the $2 trillion global agriculture trade. He emphasized that this modest share presents a “huge opportunity” for Indian exporters to scale up.

Jammu and Kashmir launch new poly greenhouse at Horticulture Department headquarters
The new facility allows for year-round cultivation of fruit plants, regardless of seasonal changes. District Horticulture Officer Sanjeev Kumar said that the department previously relied on seeds to grow plants, which typically took seven years to bear fruit. However, with the introduction of grafting techniques in the poly greenhouse, fruit plants will begin producing in just three years. Speaking to IANS, Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the broader goals of HADP, which has been active in J&K for the past two years. "There are 29 projects under HADP, inaugurated by PM Modi. Our focus is horticulture, specifically under projects 9, 15, and 21. We want people to grow their own plants, reduce dependence on external sources, and become self-reliant," he stated. "We also plan to provide similar high-tech poly greenhouse nurseries to farmers on a subsidy basis, helping them boost productivity and income," Sanjeev Kumar said.

The JCEC saw robust participation from senior officials, policymakers, and stakeholders from both sides in a spirit of constructive engagement and mutual ambition. The dialogue reaffirmed the strategic economic partnership between the two nations and aligns with the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–29 to promote economic resilience, industrial partnerships, and inclusive, sustainable growth. India and Italy agreed to prioritize cooperation in several emerging and strategic sectors. These include Industry 4.0, aerospace, energy transition, and sustainable mobility. The two sides also stressed the importance of joint efforts in skill development, digital transformation, migration and mobility, as well as global connectivity initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).Several concrete outcomes emerged from the JCEC. India and Italy resolved to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food processing, and to set up Joint Working Groups in the automobile and space sectors. Both sides identified collaboration opportunities in sustainable agri-value chains, agri-machinery, food packaging technologies, and renewable energy. They also agreed to work together in areas such as green hydrogen and biofuels and expressed intent to facilitate movement of skilled professionals between the two countries.

US trade team said to extend India stay as talks gather momentum

Most of the issues may get finalized within a week, the people estimated.India and the US are working on a phased trade deal with an early agreement targeted for July, the deadline for implementation of the so-called reciprocal tariffs. A significant step has been taken to elevate agriculture in Uttarakhand to new heights. The Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in a Kisan Chaupal organized at Pawwala Sauda village under the Doiwala block of Dehradun today. Sitting on a traditional cot (चारपाई) in the middle of the fields, he engaged in heartfelt conversations with farmers and gained insights into grassroots challenges. On the occasion, he also planted a sapling under the "One Tree in Mother’s Name" campaign.
