Bumper Rice Crop To Enable India Export 24 Mn Tons in 2025-26; Target 40% Global Rice Market.
India is poised to export approximately 24 million tonnes of rice in the 2025–26 marketing year (October–September), potentially capturing around 40 per cent of global rice trade, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This optimistic projection is underpinned by India's substantial foodgrain reserves, estimated at 66.16 million tonnes as of April 27, 2025.

UP sets target to raise horticultural produce from 6% to 20% by 2027.
The state govt on Wednesday said that it aimed to increase the area under horticulture crops from the current 11.6% to 16% by 2027. Simultaneously, the state set a goal to raise the processing of horticultural produce from 6% to 20% within the same timeframe.According to a state govt spokesperson, the state planned an investment of Rs 11,000 crore for encouraging mega food processing units and developing the necessary infrastructure to support them.

'South African and Egyptian citrus continue to be the most popular in India'.
The consumer in India has a taste for domestically grown citrus, but certainly for imported varieties as well, says Shubha Rawal, head of sourcing of IG International: 'The citrus market in India is currently quite dynamic. We're seeing steady demand for imported citrus fruits, especially during the off-season for local produce. Domestically, Indian citrus varieties like kinnow and mosambi dominate, but there is a clear appetite for high-quality, seedless, and easy-peel imported citrus. The market has matured significantly, with consumers becoming more aware of taste, origin, and quality. Retail and modern trade are playing a key role in expanding this segment further.'

Telangana legally exporting rice to Philippines: Civil supplies.
Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan on Wednesday said the state government was exporting rice to the Philippines under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement. He asserted that the export of rice is completely legal. Responding to recent reports in the AP media, Chauhan noted that the paddy production in Telangana has increased tremendously but milling and storage capacity has not increased proportionately.

Vietnam forecast to become world’s second-largest rice importer by 2025–26.
Vietnam is projected to become the world’s second – largest rice importer in 2025-26, coming only after the Philippines, as the country must ramp up imports to meet export demand amid falls in domestic production, according to the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, released by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA estimates that Vietnam will import four million tonnes of rice in 2024-25 and 4.1 million tonnes in 2025-2026, while the Philippines – a traditional buyer or Vietnamese rice – is expected to remain the world’s largest importer of rice with demand at around 5.5 million tonnes annually.

India's Exports to US Surge 27.3% in April.
India's exports to the US rose by 27.3 per cent to USD 8.42 billion, while imports surged by 63.76 per cent to USD 5.24 billion in April, according to the commerce ministry data. Trade experts said that domestic exporters have rushed to deliver their orders to avoid the reciprocal tariffs announced by the Trump administration on April 2.

India, US working on new customs audit process to cut trade friction.
India and the US are working out a fresh customs audit process to minimise the rejection of consignments, lessen the number of certification and expedite movement of goods amid ongoing trade negotiation between the two nations. The customs representative from both sides met last week to introduce clearer protocols and auditing mechanisms in compliance with international trade standards, and at the same time to relax certification norms for seafood, and genetically modified agri produce, and processed food, ET has learnt.
