Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand from April 3-4 to participate in the 6th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit. As part of his visit, PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on April 3. The two leaders are expected to review bilateral cooperation and outline future partnerships between India and Thailand.

Government lists exporters' feedback: US 2nd biggest source of curbs.
Trade restrictions imposed by the US through standards and other compliances are next only to the European Union on a platform that is being put together by the govt based on feedback from domestic industry. The commerce department, which is testing the portal, has received 24 complaints related to recent trade barriers erected by EU, followed by the US (22) and China (20), some of which have already been flagged by Indian officials during their interaction with American counterparts.

EU pushes for MFN provision in India trade talks, eyes US-style concessions.
The European Union is pressing for inclusion of a 'forward most-favoured-nation (MFN)' provision in free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, which would require the latter to make concessions similar to those offered to the US in a proposed bilateral trade pact. The issue of MFN status figured during the last round of India-EU trade negotiations in Brussels held a fortnight ago, people familiar with the development said. Such a move would imply that reduced duties would apply uniformly across all imports.

Government approves export of key commodities to Maldives for 2025-26.
India on Tuesday notified exports of specified quantities of commodities like eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar, and dal for the Maldives in the current fiscal year. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification said these exports have been permitted to the Maldives under the bilateral trade agreement between the countries in 2025-26.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said the country's tariff policy aims to regulate trade, protect domestic industries, and generate revenue through taxes on imported and exported goods. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, he said with the changing trade scenario, India is moving towards having free trade agreements wherein customs tariffs and non-tariff barriers are reduced or eliminated on substantial trade.
