Canadian yellow pea producers will now face tariffs in both of their major export markets after India announced a new 30 per cent levy on all imported yellow peas beginning Nov. 1. China imposed a 100 per cent tariff on Canadian yellow peas in March. It was seen as an act of retaliation for Canada's introduction of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

Sowing of rabi (winter) pulses-chana and masoor-is expected to pick up after the government's move to impose 10% import duty and additional 20% agriculture infrastructure development cess on yellow pea imports. The levies will increase the landing price of imported yellow peas and help firm up prices of domestic pulses, said Suresh Aggarwal, president, All India Dal Mill Association.

India's coffee exports hit $1.8 billion in FY25, continues four-year growth streak.
India's coffee exports have continued their strong upward trajectory, maintaining their billion-dollar streak for the fourth consecutive financial year, according to the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. During the financial year 2024-25, India's coffee exports reached $1.80 billion, marking a 40.2 per cent growth over the $1.28 billion achieved in FY 2023-24, the department said in a X post, attached with it an infographic.

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today inaugurated the National FPO Conclave 2025 in Delhi. The event saw the participation of over 500 progressive farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Implementing Agencies (IAs), and Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) from 24 states and 140 districts across India. Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister lauded the efforts of farmers, FPO members, and participating institutions, calling upon them to transform farmers from producers to entrepreneurs and traders so that the full benefit reaches them directly.

Agriculture must double to $1 trillion for India's $10-trillion dream: Experts.
India's agriculture sector needs to double its economic contribution to nearly USD 1 trillion from about USD 450 billion to help the country achieve its goal of becoming a USD 10-trillion economy by 2047, industry experts said on Thursday. While agriculture employs nearly 46 per cent of India's workforce, its value addition remains disproportionately low at about 15 per cent of gross domestic product, highlighting the need for policy reforms and increased private investment, they said.

India's rice exports to rise over 10 pc in FY26 in quantity terms: APEDA Chairman.
