The eighth meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG), on Agriculture between India and the Netherlands was held at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Priya Ranjan, joint secretary (Horticulture), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and Guido Landheer, Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, the Netherlands. Both sides exchanged views on the current priorities, challenges, and new initiatives in their respective agriculture sectors. Emphasising the significance of the JWG mechanism, both sides appreciated its role in deepening the longstanding cooperation in agriculture between the two countries.

Philippines: Rice imports expected to resume by mid-Jan.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Tuesday that rice imports could resume in mid-January as prices stabilize following a four-month import ban. DA Spokesman Arnel V. de Mesa said the executive order extending the import ban until December has yet to be released but confirmed it will be issued soon.

Bananas from South India's Andhra Pradesh state are gaining recognition as a reliable and high-potential crop, says Nagireddy Nagarjuna Reddy, founder of fresh produce aggregator NMR Fruit Ventures. 'The recent cyclone in the State had no impact on banana cultivation in the Rayalaseema region, our main banana belt. This area is inland and unaffected by coastal weather disruptions that damaged other crops like paddy,' he explains.

The two-day Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 concluded at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking a significant boost for India’s agricultural exports and advancements in rice processing technology. Supported by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, along with several government and industry bodies, the conference drew an impressive 10,854 visitors, including 1,083 international buyers and 154 exhibitors from across the country. Centre to hold awareness meet in Ongole on Rs 564-crore horticulture cluster development plan.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, is rolling out the Horticulture Cluster Development Programme (CDP) nationwide through the National Horticulture Board (NHB), aiming for holistic growth of horticultural crops across the value chain. India and Bahrain on Monday announced commencing negotiations for an ambitious trade deal and inching closer to seal an investment pact as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held extensive talks with his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani to further broad-base overall ties. In their talks, the two ministers also agreed to develop a common understanding to commence negotiations for a double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA).
