Bangladesh’s interim government has begun importing rice from India as part of a significant move to secure the nation’s food supply. The first consignment of 27,000 tonnes of rice arrived at Chittagong port this week, marking the beginning of a larger import deal.
The Directorate of Horticulture, Odisha in collaboration with Palladium Consulting India Pvt Ltd has signed 11 memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with private sector exporters at the Krushi Odisha 2025 event.
Total rice imports last year rose to a new all-time high of almost 4.7 million metric tons (MT) as the country turned to foreign supplies to plug its shortfall in domestic stocks and temper retail prices of the staple.
Gujarat farmers have already sown Rabi crops over 47.55 lakh hectares as against the three years average of round 46.07 lakh hectares.
