India says no immediate plan to permit export of wheat, wheat products.
India’s Food Minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday rejected a demand to allow wheat export, saying it would be assessed only after new crop arrives next year. Even for permitting export of wheat products, Joshi said there is no such plan for now. Addressing the annual general meeting of the Roller Flour Millers’ Federation of India in New Delhi, the Minister told the members of the industry body to work towards increasing the area under wheat as demand has been rising steadily.

EXIM Bank boosts credit to exporters hit by US tariffs, eyes Africa expansion.
India's Export-Import (EXIM) Bank is increasing credit support to exporters and helping them diversify into newer markets, particularly Africa, following punitive U.S. tariffs on imports from the South Asian nation, a top official said. State-owned EXIM Bank - which provides export financing and backs loans granted by commercial lenders to buyers of Indian goods - has eased risk limits on at least a fourth of its overseas banking partners, said Tarun Sharma, the deputy managing director at EXIM Bank of India.

India, US trade talks on at different levels: Official.
India-US talks are happening at different levels covering both trade and non-trade issues, an official said. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in the US for trade talks. He is accompanied by senior officials of the ministry, including special secretary and India's chief negotiator Rajesh Agrawal.

Food security key to wheat export limits: Govt.
The government will consider easing restrictions on the export of wheat products only after assessing this season's planting and production outlook, food minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday. The flour milling industry had requested the government to permit shipments of up to 1 million tonnes of processed wheat products such as maida, suji and atta. At present, exports of wheat flour are restricted, with shipments allowed only under the Advance Import Authorisation scheme.

India-EU FTA talks: 13th round sees little progress on farm, auto sectors.
India and the European Union did not make much progress in sensitive areas such as automotives and agricultural products in the 13th round of negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement (FTA), the EU said in a statement on Tuesday. The latest round took place in New Delhi on September 8-12 wherein negotiators reached clarity on their respective interests in market access for both industrial and agriculture goods. 'While some progress was made in certain outstanding areas, in particular on rules of origin, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and investment, no additional chapter could be closed this time,' the EU said.

India needs to raise agri sector's contribution in GDP to 26 pc to become self-reliant: Nitin Gadkari.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday stressed on the need to increase the share of agriculture and allied sector in the GDP to at least 26 per cent from the present 18 per cent to make India self-reliant. Addressing an annual general meeting of Crop Care Federation of India, Gadkari, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, emphasised on reducing the cost of production to make agriculture sector economically viable.

Govt makes it mandatory to register non-basmati rice contracts with APEDA for shipments.
The government on Wednesday said exports of non-basmati rice will be permitted only after registration with the commerce ministry's arm APEDA. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an arm of the commerce ministry that deals with agri exports-related issues.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar was part of an informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers, hosted by EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Apeda figures low in fiscal support even as India looks to sign FTAs.
As India looks to sign bilateral trade agreements with countries across the globe, the latest being with Israel, an analysis of the budgets of its agriculture-centric trade-promotion bodies shows that the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda), which handles the highest amount of farm export, has got the least increase in budgetary support over the last decade. Such bodies play a vital role in trade negotiations. Apeda, according to trade estimates, exported agricultural products worth around Rs.2.08 trillion in 2023-34 (FY24).
