India identifies nearly 50 export destinations to counter Trump tariffs as US issues levy notice.
India is rallying its export activities as Trump’s tariffs go into effect from tomorrow (August 27). The US Homeland Security on Tuesday issued a notification saying that Washington would impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on all Indian-origin goods. President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent duty on Indian goods over New Delhi’s import of Russian oil. In total, India will face a tariff of up to 50 per cent, which is among the highest imposed by the American leader.

Centre revises Wheat Stock limit till 31st March 2026.
In order to manage the overall food security and to prevent hoarding and unscrupulous speculation, the Government of India imposed stock limits on wheat applicable to Traders/Wholesalers, Retailers, Big Chain Retailers and Processors in all States and Union Territories. The Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Amendment) Order, 2025 was issued on 27 May 2025 and was applicable for all States and Union Territories.

India-South Africa Joint Working Group on Agriculture meets virtually.
The 5thmeeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Agriculture was held between India and South Africa today in virtual mode. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (IC), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfares, and Mr. Thapsana Molepo, Acting Director, International Trade Promotion, South Africa. Kharif crops sowing reaches near normal area, 4% up from year-ago.
On the one hand farmers who had planted Pusa Basmati 1509 rice in April have harvested and sold their crops whereas there are farmers of paddy who still continue to plant in current Kharif season. With about 34 lakh hectare (lh) covered during the past week (as against 44 lh in the previous week) and the lead over year-ago period in current season further narrows to 3.4 per cent as of August 22 from 3.7 per cent until August 15, the government is keeping a close watch on likely yield.

Trump Tariffs India: Trump admin pushes ahead with plans to implement 50% tariff on India; notice issued.
The United States has moved to raise tariffs on Indian imports, with an additional 25 per cent duty set to push the overall rate to 50 per cent. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the new measures will take effect from 12:01 am Eastern Daylight Time on 27 August as per their latest draft notice. The step follows US President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14329, signed earlier this month, which directs agencies to act against what Washington calls threats linked to Russia and its trade partners.

Food Secretary sees bright sugarcane prospects, urges sugar industry consensus on export quotas.
Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra on Tuesday said the prospects for the sugarcane crop look bright and called on industry bodies to reach a consensus on their demand to allocate export quotas only to mills willing to ship from their own facilities. 'We have sought the views of the industry. They should develop a consensus among themselves, and then they should come to us,' Chopra told PTI.

Andhra Pradesh signs MoU with APM Terminals.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has outlined a plan to position Andhra Pradesh as a logistics hub for the eastern region of India. A key part of this plan is the development of marine infrastructure, including ports, fishing harbours, and fish landing centres at intervals of 50 kilometres along the state's 1,053 km coastline. The state currently has five operational non-major ports, with four greenfield ports expected to become operational by 2026.

India rice prices surge after Dhaka lifts duties on imports.
Rice prices in eastern India rose sharply this week after Bangladesh scrapped import duties on shipments from its neighbour, following New Delhi's decision to lift an export ban. India removed its ban on rice exports to Bangladesh on Aug. 12. A day later, Dhaka allowed private traders to import about 500,000 tonnes of rice duty-free to ease high inflation at home. Bangladesh had already imported 1.3 million tonnes in the current financial year due to weak domestic output, pushing retail prices up by 16%, says the Times of India.
