Total imports (Merchandise and Services combined) for December 2025* is estimated at US$ 80.94 Billion, registering a positive growth of 6.17 percent vis-à-vis December 2024.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), and other Government partners and industry stakeholders, organised the National Conference on Strategic Trade Controls (NCSTC) 2026 in New Delhi today. The Conference provided a platform for discussions on India’s Strategic Trade Control (STC) framework, including policies and procedures governing the export of dual-use and sensitive goods, technologies, software, materials and equipment regulated under the SCOMET framework. It also enabled the exchange of international experiences and practices related to strategic trade controls. NCSTC 2026 focused on enhancing awareness, compliance and coordination among Government, industry, academia, research institutions and international stakeholders, while facilitating legitimate high-technology trade and addressing proliferation risks.

After the Philippines and Senegal lifted curbs on rice imports, India’s agri export promotion body APEDA has resumed registering export contracts for non-Basmati rice to both countries with immediate effect. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said in a notice on Wednesday that it has resumed the issuance of Registration-Cum-Allocation Certificates (RCAC) for the export of non-Basmati rice to Senegal.

To ease documentation requirements for exporters trading with West Asia and North Africa (WANA), the government has authorised the India & Arab Countries Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (IACCIA) to issue non-preferential certificates of origin, according to a government order. The decision is aimed at improving ease of doing business, particularly for small and medium exporters who often face bottlenecks in securing certificates during peak export cycles.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh have emerged as the top five export ready states of India, among the large states category, in the NITI Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index 2024. As per the index, released on Wednesday, Maharashtra toppled Tamil Nadu to become the Number 1 in 2024 ranking which takes into account performance during FY '22-F'Y24 when compared to EPI 2022 whenTamil Nadu stood at Number 1 followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Haryana.

India’s shipments to China posted a rare year-on-year increase in 2025, even as the bilateral trade gap ballooned to an all-time high, underlining the persistent imbalance in the two-way economic relationship, PTI reported. Data released by Chinese customs on Wednesday showed that Indian exports to China rose by $5.5 billion during January–December 2025, taking total outbound shipments to $19.75 billion — a 9.7 per cent increase over the previous year. This marks a notable departure from years of stagnation in India’s exports to its largest trading partner.
