Trade negotiations between the United States and India are making progress and a deal could be finalised soon, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Monday, as both sides push to conclude talks ahead of a July deadline. 'You should expect a deal between United States and India (in the ) not-too-distant future because I think we have found a place that really works for both countries,' Lutnick said at the annual summit of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington.

India and the EU have reached consensus on almost half of the topics to be covered by a trade deal they hope to seal this year and have agreed that the pact will not cover some 'sensitive' farming products such as dairy, according to people with knowledge of the talks. The people said negotiators had agreed eight out of roughly 20 deal 'chapters', each covering topics such as rules of origin or intellectual property rights, after the EU in February stepped up efforts to bolster economic ties with the world’s fifth-largest economy.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued guidelines for acceptance of recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) as Food Contact Material (FCM-rPET). According to FSSAI, these guidelines pertain only to the recycling process/operation of transforming post-consumer PET used for food applications into recycled PET as Food Contact Material (FCM-rPET) resins suitable for making Food Contact Materials and cover the acceptance criteria for using (FCM-rPET) resin in Food Contact Materials, apply only to recycling technology approved by FSSAI and do not apply to production of resins for non-food grade consumer applications.

Highlighting that India’s $580-650 billion agriculture sector is the world’s fastest-growing —at 5 per cent annually in the past six years—a report by McKinsey said it can reach to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035. 'India’s agriculture sector is host to multiple structural advantages vis-à-vis other agriculture economies that, if leveraged to their full potential, could accelerate growth of the sector to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035 and $ 3.1 trillion by 2047,' it said in a report titled 'value creation in Indian agriculture'.
