Bangladesh: 10,850 tonnes of rice arrive from India.
A consignment of 10,850 tonnes of boiled rice from India, transported by the MV HT Unite, has reached the Chattogram port. The rice was imported under an agreement (Package-8) through an international open tender, the Ministry of Food said in a press release on Thursday.

Procurement of Kharif-grown rice concludes in most States, rises 1%.
Rice procurement has slowed down in March, as the increase of 5 per cent as of February 28 has come down to a lead of 1 per cent as of March 31, after the 2024-25 season began on October 1 last year. Experts view this as a good sign, as the government has been facing problems in disposing of the surplus after meeting the requirement under food security law and other welfare schemes, estimated at about 41 million tonnes.

Odisha makes first-ever global export of Moringa, Parwal to Dubai.
Odisha has recorded its first-ever international export of drumstick (moringa) from the Rayagada district and pointed gourd (parwal) to Dubai. The consignment, totalling 910 kg, was shipped through Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar, reflecting Odisha’s expanding footprint in global agri-markets.

Peace clause invoked 6th time to offer rice subsidies.
India has, for the sixth time, invoked the peace clause for exceeding the 10% ceiling on support it offered its rice farmers. It informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) Wednesday that the value of its rice production in 2023-24 was $56.87 billion while it gave subsidies worth $6.81 billion, which comes to around 12% against the permitted 10%.

The Agricultural Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Department of Commerce, has intensified efforts to promote millet exports through trade fairs, exhibitions, and global awareness campaigns. As part of the International Year of Millets 2023, APEDA collaborated with Indian embassies, government departments, and international trade bodies to organise buyer-seller meets, sampling events, millet-themed exhibitions, and branding initiatives. Millets remain a key focus in domestic and global trade fairs where APEDA participates.

GI tag for Thovalai maalai, Kumbakonam betel leaf soon in TN.
Four months after the publication of applications in the Geographical Indications (GI) journal, the Kumbakonam vetrilai (betel leaf) and Thovalai maanikka maalai (flower garland) are poised to receive the GI tag, said P Sanjai Gandhi, an intellectual property attorney and government pleader at the Madras High Court. He confirmed that the applications, filed by him did not face any objections within the stipulated four-month period. Hence, these products are now considered registered in the GI registry.

India's March palm oil imports rise but stay below normal levels, dealers say.
India's palm oil imports in March increased from the previous month but remained below normal levels for the fourth consecutive month, as its premium over rival soyoil prompted refiners to boost soyoil purchases, according to five dealers. Lower-than-normal palm oil imports by India, the world's biggest buyer of vegetable oils, could pressure Malaysian palm oil prices and support U.S. soyoil futures.
